Visioning, crafting, and implementing worship for our United Church of Christ General Synod is one of the primary responsibilities of my role as Minister for Worship and Theology. This includes four worship services, theological reflectors, morning devotions, and chapel space. In 2023, my first year as General Synod Worship Director, I realized that despite all the time and attention given to worship planning for the gathering, most members of the United Church of Christ would never engage with this experience. Wanting to bridge that gap, I created GS Worship@Home, which bridged the liturgy offered through Worship Ways, including the same communion rite used at the gathering in Indianapolis. The idea was to remind the church of our connection and community.
For General Synod this year, we are expanding companion resources even more. The theme, Into the Deep, invites us beyond the superficial in a multitude of ways. Our resources will Go Deeper as well. GS Worship@Home, beyond service prayers, offered faith formation resources and tied to the Sermon Seeds reflection for the Sunday of General Synod. This year, the theme for Seeds and Ways Roadmap will be Into the Deep and will encompass those resources from June 15 through July 27.
I am calling for writers of faith formation resources for those weeks to Go Deeper and strongly encourage members of AUCE to consider contributing to the life of the church in this way. In addition to faith formation, Go Deeper will include poetry, original songs, theological reflections, Living Psalms, artistry, and more. If you would like to contribute, please contact me at lindsayc@ucc.org. Resources will be due by May 18, 2025.
Let's Go Deeper together.
